Hi Jon, came across your blog via the Yahoo Brompton Group. I did a tour way back in 85-86 going through France, Italy, Slovenia, Bosnia, Serbia, Greece and Turkey. Your blog reminded me of the long roads, alternating solitude and companionship and the pleasure in meeting someone doing something similar. and the generosity of people on the way. Good luck. I hope you meet with good things. You’ll enjoy Turkey (my favourite country to cycle in).

John, you’re a nutcase. Here’s some sensible advice that I’ve told you already:
1. Flog the bike. Take the bus or buy a car.
2. Save up hard, get yourself an Irish passport on the black market and your visa problems will be over.
3. Rob a bank before you leave any country, you’re funding problems will instantly disappear.
4. Second thought, don’t flog the bike. With some minor modifications it’ll be useful as an excercise bike in jail, should point 3 above not work out.
Finally, you better mention me in any book you write. I already have you pencilled in mine … the mad dog riding a sewing machine.

Well now that I am settled for a bit I checked up on your website and your adventures and all I could say that you have done the right choice. Your dreams may be postponded however you’ll get there someday and that’s something amazing to look forward to! I am heading on my dream to Panama City soon on my own and riding the bus all the way to Nicaragua till I get to Honduras and the rest of Central….dangerous, but I just feel it’s calling me!
You can do it, Jon! I can’t wait to hear your adventures in 2010!
